Yahoo Fail

Posted on November 19th, 2008 in Blogroll by Kevin

Today seems to be one of those days where everything around me is broken.  Let me explain..

I need to do some testing on an iPhone with Yahoo mail, so I tried to create an account.  Account name already in use Yahoo tells me, so I know no one else is stupid enough to use my name, it must be me from a very very long time ago.

I go through the password recovery system and entered what i guessed would the the secondary e-mail address I used, which was correct and Yahoo goes and sends a mail to eckrall@totalise.co.uk, an old ISP I used many years ago.

I head off to totalise.co.uk and find out they have been taken over by madasafish, so I go though the password recovery system there and hit the first hurdle, madasafish’s password recovery system is broken with the following error…

‘The requested URL /forgot-password/verify_details.asp was not found on this server.’

So I head back to Yahoo and start again, this time I end up on the support page…

http://help.yahoo.com/l/uk/yahoo/my/my/registration/registration-01.html.

This time I try option 2…

  • Get new password in an email: Choose this option to send your new password to the alternate email address you gave when you registered. If you lost access to your alternate email address and are having trouble with the first method, please submit a request to update your email address

I click the link to update with a current e-mail addres, this link goes to..

http://help.yahoo.com/fast/help/us/edit/cgi_feedback

This page doesnt seem to exist any more and just loops back to the main Yahoo support portal on..

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/helpcentral/

OK, Last chance,  I go back to the password reset page and click the link for ‘Contact Customer Care’, which takes me to…

http://help.yahoo.com/l/uk/yahoo/my/forms_index.html

Where I choose the ‘Basic web form’, which is supposed to assist with account issues and suchlike.  The iceing on the cake is that to use this web form YOU MUST BE SIGNED INTO YAHOO!.

Now I have come across some real fucking dumb systems in my time, but to have the accout assistance page require you to log in to by far the dumbest yet.

I hated Yahoo before I started all this, now I just hope the whole company just drops off the net and never returns.

Rant over, thanks for listening

Planet Debian meme

Posted on September 19th, 2008 in Blogroll by Kevin

As required by the latest meme on Planet Debian, here is a pic of me, it was taken on the roof of my girlfriends block of flats, after popping up for a quick smoke and trying to catch up on the 200+ items in rss feed.
Let the mockery commence

Religion as Likened to Football

Posted on March 13th, 2008 in Blogroll by Kevin

I do not care for religion, I have been there and escaped from the other side. Looking at people who do ‘believe’ from the outside in you can compare it to football supporters.

1) You support the same team as your parents do (generally, some people will choose another team just to be difficult)
2) All other teams are inferior
3) You will defend your team to the death
4) You will try and convince those around you they are supporting the wrong team.
5) You can rattle off years of stats and useless information which holds no real value
6) Those who have no interest in football with sit there with a gazed expression as you whittle on about it
7) You hate supporters of the other teams for no real reason other than countless generations hating them before you. 8) If you decide at any point in your life to support another team, your old supporters will look on you as a traitor
9) Violence can break out between the 2 sides over a misunderstanding, leading to out and out war
10) Some people join up only to cause harm to others, and rejoice as their fellow supporters praise them for it.
Thanks

Ubuntu UK Podcast

Posted on March 11th, 2008 in Blogroll by Kevin

Was catching up on my rss feeds while on the train back from work this evening when I noticed a posting from Popey for the first episode of the Ubuntu UK podcast, so I browsed the site to check it out with the intention of listening to it when I got home, but I thought, hey, this is supposed to be ‘the Internet in my pocket’ with iPhone, so let’s see if it can handle streamed content.
The result, I’m listening to the Ubuntu UK podcast, while typing this blog posting from wimbledon train station and everything seems to be working perfectly!
Thanks to Popey and the rest of the team for putting up a low quality version that doesn’t require an edge connection to listen to (as you dont tend to get much of an edge signal while moving on the train)

You have all been subjected to Butlins/Pontins by your parents at some time in your life. I hope you all enjoy the memories this brings back as much as me!

iPhone 1.1.3

Posted on January 29th, 2008 in Blogroll,SmartPhone by Kevin

So the new iPhone 1.1.3 has come out and i have been running it for a few days now, I’m sure you have all seen the videos on the interweb of its new home screen and other things, well none if them compare to the change that google made to its mobile reader. Now while browsing my RSS feeds via reader it automagicly resizes pictures on the fly to fit better on the screen, this makes viewing things like LOLcats so much better as you dont need to rotate the screen or scroll around to see the full picture!
Props to google
