The Microsoft World Of Bug Reports
OK, this is really starting to piss me off. I have found a bug in Outlook/IE7/Vista, when you try to add a RSS feed from a website, it pops up in outlook with the feed address, except, it adds ‘http://’ to the beginning of the feed, for example my feed becomes ‘http:// http://www.eckrall.co.uk/?feed=rss2’
This breaks every feed I have tried to add to it so far by clicking a link. This isn’t the end of the world, but what makes it really fucking crazy is that the box is un-editable! What you end up having to do is copy the feed address and manually add it. So anyway I tried to be a nice, helpful little geek and report a bug to Microsoft about this, but as far as I can tell they have no production bug reporting methods available to end users. First I tried looking in the help menus of Outlook, that linked me to an Office support page where I can check for updates or browse the knowledge base, but no bug reporting option. Next stop, Google, this took me on a merry wander around Microsoft’s site, sections that no longer exist (MSDN Product Feedback Center), IE7 and Office support sites, finally I ended up at Microsoft Connect which boasts 240,525 bugs submitted!
This is where I started thinking things are not looking good. So finally im in the right place to submit a bug report, but they still wont let me do it, I have to be registered on the right ‘Connection’ to do this, and of course there is no Outlook, IE7 or fucking Vista Connection to do this in, so I have given up. In the Open Source world I would have finished this about half and hour ago and go back on with work, but in a Microsoft world, things are never that easy…
